Toy Drive for the Frost Fest at Hacienda Heights
2017-12-20
Hsi Lai Temple delivered toys to the Hacienda Heights Community Center for the annual “Frost Fest” celebration and toy giveaway. An estimated 1,500 adults and children attended the event on Saturday, December 16, 2017, which was hosted by the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation.
In addition to the toys donated by Hsi Lai Temple, toys were provided by several other donors including “Spark of Love” ABC7, and SOCAL Firefighters.
“Thank you so much! It is wonderful to see these many toys!” said Brian Ceballos, Recreation Services Supervisor, who expressed his gratitude to Hsi Lai Temple and BLIA (Buddha’s Light International Association) volunteers who delivered the toys on Friday afternoon.
At Frost Fest, Santa Claus made a special appearance and distributed the toys based on children’s age and gender. Santa sat in the Community Center auditorium’s stage where kids waited anxiously in line to meet him.
“I can’t believe I’m meeting Santa Claus, I can’t wait, I’m so excited!” said Jayden Rodriguez, 5, who regularly attends Hsi Lai Temple’s events with his family.
Hsi Lai Temple’s annual “Winter Love Joy” event (which is held in November through December) collects toys from generous donors and devotees. This year, BLIA members delivered the toys to “Frost Fest,” and “Spark of Love Stuff-a- Bus” by ABC7 and SOCAL Fire Department.
Hsi Lai temple has organized the “Winter Love Joy” event for over 20 years. As part of the event, the temple collects and delivers food and toys, and provides scholarships to deserving 1st to 12th grade students during the “Winter Love Joy Scholarship Ceremony.”
