It’s time for free flu shots! Hsi Lai Temple, in partnership with Whittier Hospital and Walgreens, provided 205 free flu vaccinations to the local community on October 22, 2017.

“145 vaccines have already been given, and the temple service isn’t even over yet – that’s when we get the most patients.” said Ann-C, a temple volunteer. She continued, “We might need to discuss holding a second event.”

Hsi Lai Temple is using this opportunity to serve the community and build ties with three other organizations in promoting public health.

“I’m happy knowing that me and my family are now protected,” stated Robert Sun, a community member who had just received his free shot.

The vaccines were supplied by Walgreens in partnership with Whittier Hospital, who also provided 9 health science students from Western University of Health Sciences an opportunity to gain clinical experience by administering the vaccines.

“Whether for Walgreens, Hsi Lai Temple, or the Western University students, our main purpose as human beings is to help each other build a better community,” said Pharmacist Lynn Kwok of Walgreens Pharmacy.

Venerable Mankuan of Hsi Lai Temple agrees: “Through incorporating public health, community outreach and improved integration with local organizations, Hsi Lai Temple and its allies are continuing to work tirelessly in improving the lives of all those within reach.”
