Food Donated to Hacienda Heights Baptist Church
2017-12-20
In a resoundingly successful vegetarian food drive, Hsi Lai Temple and Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Los Angeles Chapter delivered an assortment of non-perishable foods and snacks to Hacienda Heights Baptist Church on December 7, 2017.
“We’ve gotten donations before, but nothing like this,” said Vanessa Corral, the church secretary, who was seemingly surprised at the large quantity of food that was donated. These food items include boxes of canned vegetables and tomato sauce, boxes of cereal, bags of rice, and snacks.
Rev. Jon Lambert, pastor of Hacienda Heights Baptist Church, sincerely thanked Hsi Lai Temle and BLIA for donating the food, and said that the food will be distributed to families in need.
The vegetarian food drive is part of an annual community outreach program called “Winter Love Joy,” which offers scholarships, food, clothing, personal care products, and toys to the community.
Hsi Lai Temple and BLIA have conducted their Winter Love Joy program for over 25 years, originally donating computers, backpacks, and school supplies to nearby schools. The program has grown to encompass a comprehensive array of goods provided to churches and homeless shelters.
Led by Venerable Youheng, volunteers who assisted with organizing the event and donating the food include Alex Wu and Steven Chow, President and VP of BLIA Los Angeles Chapter, Gena Ooi and Lorena Aguilar from the temple’s outreach department, and members of the BLIA Hsi Lai English Subchapter.
Hsi Lai Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in North America, and engages in community outreach through a variety of events. To view future events and to learn more about the temple, visit: www.hsilai.org
